Mother’s Day 2020

Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 4th annual Greenleaf Mother’s Day Butterfly release has been postponed. While the postponement is disappointing to us all, we do hope you visit the cemetery and fondly reflect upon all Mothers laid to rest at Greenleaf. No matter the season, the dedicated Greenleaf grounds crew are working tirelessly to keep the grounds in great shape for your visits.

Timeless History ……………

Kathleen O’Meara – 1869

And people stayed at home
And read books
And listened
And they rested
And did exercises
And made art and played
And learned new ways of being
And stopped and listened
More deeply
Someone meditated, someone prayed
Someone met their shadow
And people began to think differently
And people healed.
And in the absence of people who
Lived in ignorant ways
Dangerous, meaningless and heartless,
The earth also began to heal
And when the danger ended and
People found themselves
They grieved for the dead
And made new choices
And dreamed of new visions
And created new ways of living
And completely healed the earth
Just as they were healed.

Butterflies, Bubbles, Flowers and Trees!

Due to safety and environmental issues, Brownwood’s historic Greenleaf cemetery is moving in a new direction regarding celebration of life activities on the grounds.
We are encouraging visitors to avoid balloon releases at Greenleaf and instead celebrate loved ones’ lives with butterfly and bubble releases and tree planting tributes. A new Amanda Coers created mural near the cemetery office will greet visitors and help promote and encourage Greenleaf’s new direction.
