Leaders from the Gates Foundation and Envision Consulting bring AI, strategy, and nonprofit expertise to strengthen donor trust and impact
NEW YORK (July 15, 2025) – Charity Navigator, the nation’s largest evaluator of charities, is pleased to announce the appointment of two new members to its Board of Directors: Andrew Dunckelman of the Gates Foundation and Matt Kamin of Envision Consulting. Together, Dunckelman and Kamin bring expertise in philanthropy, technology, and nonprofit leadership. Their appointments come as Charity Navigator continues to expand its focus on impact-driven giving, ensuring donors have the tools they need to give with confidence and nonprofits have the support to grow trust and transparency.
“The addition of Andrew and Matt to our Board marks a pivotal moment for Charity Navigator, enriching our collective expertise as we navigate the evolving landscape of philanthropy,” said Michael Thatcher, President and CEO of Charity Navigator. “Andrew’s deep understanding of leveraging technology and AI for social impact, combined with Matt’s extensive experience in nonprofit leadership and organizational transformation, are precisely the expertise we need. They will be instrumental in advancing Charity Navigator's mission to make impactful giving easier for all.”
Andrew Dunckelman, Deputy Director of Philanthropic Partnerships at the Gates Foundation, brings extensive expertise in strengthening the charitable sector. His background includes leading Google.org's efforts to leverage AI for social good and supporting nonprofit strategy development at The Bridgespan Group. Dunckelman holds an MBA from Harvard, an MPA in nonprofit management from Indiana University, and a bachelor's degree from Louisiana State University.
“Charity Navigator is in a unique position to modernize how we evaluate and support impact in the nonprofit space. I’m excited to contribute my experience in data, technology and social innovation to help advance a more transparent, equitable, and effective philanthropic ecosystem,” said Andrew Dunckelman, Deputy Director of Philanthropic Partnerships for the Gates Foundation. “When donors and organizations have the right tools, giving becomes not just generous but transformative, too.”
Matt Kamin, Co-Founder of Envision Consulting, offers over 25 years of diverse nonprofit leadership experience. With an MBA in nonprofit management, he has served as Executive Director for multiple organizations and has a proven track record in nonprofit turnarounds and mergers. Kamin has also founded two organizations. He specializes in strategic guidance and organizational development.
“I got to know Charity Navigator’s work more deeply through a thoughtful conversation with Michael on my podcast, Nonprofit on the Rocks. I’ve always believed that nonprofit leaders deserve partners who help them demonstrate their impact, not just how lean their budgets are,” said Matt Kamin, Co-Founder and Managing Partner at Envision Consulting. “I’m excited to support Charity Navigator’s work to refocus the sector on what really matters: results, transparency, and mission-driven progress.”
With these appointments, Charity Navigator now has 16 board members. The full list of executives can be found here.
