Public Media
Highly rated nonprofits sustaining trusted news, education, and storytelling through public media.
What’s currently happening?
In July 2025, Congress approved the elimination of federal funding for public media, ending long-standing support for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), NPR, PBS, and hundreds of local stations nationwide. Despite the loss of this critical funding stream, public media continues to play an essential role: providing free, noncommercial access to trusted news, educational programming, and cultural storytelling. For many communities — especially rural and underserved areas — public media is a vital source of local information, emergency alerts, and lifelong learning. This list highlights nonprofits working to preserve and strengthen public media for all Americans
